Regardless, the only authentication on Mastodon is that an email address terminates.

That means nothing more than that an email address can result in a clicked URL, once, for activation.

It could be a Google group or a forwarded address. Youe mail client, a bot, a webhook can do this.

Mastodon is not the place to hold private or sensitive conversations. Secure private systems like #matrix or #WhatsApp or #Keybase would be the right place for this.
